Hmm I need money

Okay, admit it. We’ve all thought of wackey plans to gain cash by selling a “service” of sorts on eBay. Well, here is the ultimate service.

Here’s the offending item.

Amelie Redux

I have found the score for the piano parts in the Amelie soundtrack! It’s a transcription, it looks fairly accurate, but I don’t have a piano to try them on at the moment :(.

All credit to Soda-o-rat for making these, they came in Melody Assistant format, so I converted them to a much friendlier pdf.

    Amelie

I can’t believe I put off watching Amelie for so long! It is a masterpiece of film making and cinematography! I love the effects put into it, I love the flowing and romantic French they speak, it almost makes me want to learn French fluently (alas, lazyness prevents me there), and Audrey Tautou, who plays Amelie, is absolutley excellent!

I won’t give a full review yet, as I want to watch it again before I make any final judgements, but I can say that it is one of the best movies I have ever seen! Especially now as W H Smiths are selling it for a rediculous £0.99, I say everyone go to your local store and get it!

    The Soundtrack

The soundtrack to this movie is wonderful! Especially the pieces with the piano and (what I’m assuming is) the accordian. Wonderfully French impressionistic in style, and a joy to listen to. I think I might be mostly listening to this while revising today!

    Another Update

If you want the score to the paino parts, I’ve uploaded them in this article.

    Tsunami Relief Redux

As there is no way to make a sticky post, I thought it would be important to reaffirm where you can get more information and donate to the Tsunami Relief Appeal.

Also, please remember that don’t stop your donations to other charities. Every week in the third world, 150,000 people die of starvation and diesase. Please keep your donations to these countries, mainly in Africa.

    Moving on

I’ve made a subdomain, livejournal.ejecutive.co.uk, so that you can find my LiveJournal account easier. I’ll be posting random facts and my daily stuff there, as I don’t want to clog this blogger up with crap like that.

    Show me where it hurts

Why the hell am I up at this obscene hour when I’m supposed to be going down town shopping tomorrow morning? Someone has started streaming a video off my computer again (probably Joey or Enterprise), which is fairly annoying as the red hard disk activity LED flashes a lot. At least my hard disk is quiet.

Anyway, this farily random blog does have a purpose, I have created a new LiveJournal account, which I will use (or find some use of). It currently has no use, apart from joining a few communities I’m involved in. Feel free to add me if you also have an account, although don’t look at the page as it currently has a grotesque design. I’ll be seeing you lot here or on LiveJournal.

    Bah-ness

Just had another spammage, and out of the ten spam comments, two got through, so I’m tightening my spam filters to filter the word “sex” now seeing as basically all of them have this.

This means if you comment with the word “sex”, it will need to be moderated before it will appear. So please don’t keep repeatdly posting comments if they don’t appear!

I’m not really comfertable with any of the anti-spam plug-ins current avaliable, so I’ll leave it on just filter at the moment, if that doesn’t work, I might have to disable comments until I find a good solution.

    Update

Just caught another 20 in the filters, seems to be working fully now.

    Damn the Amazon effect

Argh! How has an obscure list I made in Amazon taken over this site in Google’s rankings if you search for Weiran Zhang? I don’t think I’ve posted that anywhere, so why/how would Google get it’s little mitts on it?! That first result isn’t me by the way, do I look like I work for Oracle?

    Update

You’ll probably need a picture to answer that last question, which reminds me, have to find some time to work on the biography…

    It’s upto you

Step One - Choose a uniform and a background. Step Two - Upload a photo of your pet.

Printer woes, why don’t you give me a…

I just finished my report on whether Apple was a viable business soltuion back in 1998, and my printers broke (my lovely Epson R200)! It’s got two flashing red lights, which means it has full ink pads (whatever they are). On the bright side, Epson will replace it and it’ll come with a new set of cartridges! Oh the joy! Now how am I supposed to print this report…

On a brighter note, I found this. Thanks in advance (you’ll know what I mean when you click)!

    The Report

No, I will not be releasing this report on the internet, mainly due to the shame (it’s not very good at all). However, I’m thinking of making a University course page in which I’ll release all my coursework for you lot to laugh over.

    Six Apart aquires LiveJournal

Six Apart has bought LiveJournal! I’ve had both a LiveJournal account and tinkered with Moveable Type before, and neither really appealed to me (which is why I made my own blog/CMS, Tastydirt Pro). However, both LiveJournal and Moveable Type have progressed since I last looked at them, and I’ll be keeping a close eye on what happens with this “acquisition”, as it would be interesting to see how things get on.

Read the full articles from Six Apart and LiveJournal.

    Make a difference with BlogAid

While I would never put ads on my site to gain revenue for myself (apart from the odd affilate scheme), you might have noticed Google’s AdSense appearing on the pages.

I was inspired to do this by Andy Budd’s Blog Aid idea, and all proceeds gained from AdSense will be donated to Oxfam. Depending on the success of this, I might keep it them on afterward January, however at all times the proceeds will be donated to a charity. If not, I’ll remove the Google AdSense ads altogether.

You can find my previous posts about this disaster here and here.

    Update

Last day of adverts, an update has been posted.

    Opera my ass

After using Opera 8 Beta for about a week, I’ve decided that it is far too buggy to be used a real-world enviroment at the moment. I know it’s a beta release, so I’ll test the full version when its out, here’s a list of why you shouldn’t use it:

    • CPU usage bug.
Every now and again when I have many tabs open, Opera freezes (not crash, it still works), stops loading any pages, and uses 100% of the CPU.
    • Rendering bugs
There are many rendering bugs with Opera, at least three big sites I visit have major rendering problems that make them unviewable. This is probably down to miss-formed CSS, although you would expect some tolerance in a bit browser like this
    • Major bugs with Wordpress administration
The redirects don’t work, referers are broken, the posted page design is rendered very badly and has some very strange session problems.
    • General incompatibility errors
Such as random crashes, failure to download files, insistance on using it’s own IRC client and not my preferred mIRC.

etc. etc. the list goes on. Some of these problems are not with Opera, and some are. I think I might try Firefox some more to see how it compairs.

You put your site online for a week…

I’ve been getting some comment spam, but not any kind of advertising, just random text linking no-where. Strange, does anyone know why this is happening? The IP addresses are mainly from Amsterdam.

It’s more annoying than dangerous, though. Anyone know the reason of this? Virus?

    Update

It seems that its starting to get towards advertising spam, so I’m currently tweaking my filters, they seem to be catching most of them now, so I’ll continue testing and tweaking for a couple weeks and release them.

    Another Update

Another spam-a-thon, nine comment spam posts, all caught by the filters :)!

    And Another

It seems the spammers are leaving my site for a bit, but I bet they will return (and face my filters once again! Mwhahaha!)

    From one to another

    The “Amazon” Effect

This Wired article makes an interesting read.

The Making of Little Britain Too

Just been watching this about the excellent Little Britain show, and found that the word “bitty” they use comes from a true story about a boy who was still breast fed at five years of age, and whenever he wanted any he said “bitty”, which is a combination of the words “breast” and “titty”.

    Michael “von” Heilemann

I’ve changed the style of this site to the excellent Kubric by Michael Heilemann.

I found this while browsing the Wordpress support forums, and I think it improves on the already excellent Human Condition design I had before.

    Post comments, in the…err…comments!

Note: The designers name, isn’t Michael von Heilemann, I just thought it “fit” :-).

    Lackage

Sorry for the lack of posts recently, I’ve been faily busy with catching up on work I’ve left to the last minute. I’ll fill some space by first telling you about some of the gems I’ve found on the internet recently.

    Operata

For the new year, I’ve decided that I would try out a new browser. I’m going to use Opera for a month, and see how it compaires to my month with Firefox and my current browser of choice, Netcaptor.

From what little I’ve used if it so far, I’m impressed. I’m using 8.00 BETA at the moment, so I can’t really comment on the stability of the final release, but the beta is pretty stable. I can already see a couple of rendering bugs (but thats caused by sloppy CSS from the Wordpress Admin pages). It renders this site without much fault though (apart from a few margin issues at the top and bottom, which I’ll fix later).

The free version of Opera has adverts, although for some reason, my remains blank. I think it might have to do with ZoneAlarm on my system blocking the ads, although I’ll get back to you on that issue.

    Rising tide

As the deathtoll reaches nearly 150,000, people should consider donating, or more if they can.

Just think of something you would perhaps buy, don’t buy it, and donate that. Do this once or twice a week, and you would be helping a lot of people.

Here are some links to places you can donate.

    Happy New Year!
