Music has more than just structure. It has the same abstract properties as mathematics. I am not surprised that most of the programmers said they thought mathwas helpful. There was time, back in the 1950’s-1960’s when it was thought that only those trained in mathematics could understand programming.

Music has structure, and has a readable layout. In order for code to follow, it must be displayed in a way that is readable to others. Perhaps this is why music has a connection with programming.
