While Jason Kottke’s idea of the iPhone recording every phone call seems useful, depending on where you live you cannot legally record phone calls without informing the other party beforehand.

In the UK, it is legal to record your phone calls for your own purposes. If you intend to replay the recording to a 3rd party who was not involved in the original call, then you must obtain consent from the person you are calling that the call can be recorded.
