Updated permalinks

I had to make another change to the permalink structure, so my apologies to you if you get my last ten posts in your feed reader again. However, I have now fixed all the URL problems, so the old /category/post-name and archives/post-number now redirect to the correct page!

Opera TP2

Opera has finally released a new technology preview of their version 9 browser, Opera 9 TP2. I’ll be honest, none of the new features really tickle my fancy that much. What I’m interested is the numourus CSS bugs they’ve fixed, including one that affected Ejecutive.

Opacity

After recently announcing my retirement from the LiveJournal style game, I now have more time to concentrate on other projects. One of which, is the long overdue rebranding of Ejecutive.

I’ve been using other peoples WordPress themes for as long as I’ve been using WordPress. But most of the time I’ve been using themes by Michael Heilemann, and while they are fantastic, I need something more customised. Something more me. So, I introduce Opacity!

Over the next few months, I’ll be working on Opacity, which is not just a design, its a rebranding of Ejecutive. Infact, some of the rebranding has already come into shape, through the extended use of tags, noteworthy posts, new permalinks and getting rid of the old categories. The site is ready for the new theme, I just need to make it. Now, you all know of my reputation for finishing projects; only about 50% of the ones I start actually get done within a reasonable amount of time. But this project is going to be my focus for the near future, and I’m going to try my damndest to get it out-the-door.

But fear not, as this doesn’t mean an end to K2LJ, or the Poogasm series. I will be working on those as well, with K2LJ nearly finished, but SIFW/PG (which still requires a production name) will have to be put on the backburner for a bit as I try to learn Ruby on Rails for their development.

If any of you remember, the last time I flexed my design muscles was for Tastydirt, which has long since perished. It’s time I start something more permanent. And it’s about time.

Time to upgrade

Alas, it’s time to upgrade the site again. I did ponder whether or not to upgrade to WordPress 2.0, but in the end, it’s best to get all the upgrade worries out before I make any major changes to the site. I’ve also upgraded to K2 Beta Two, which has a fresh new design.

The WordPress 2.0 upgrade was fairly smooth afterall, I updated all my plugins to the latest versions, which I expect helped. The only problem I have at the moment is the .htaccess file seems to be broken, and my custom rules are not followed, including old deprecated links and tag links. That’ll have to wait until tomorrow now, I have a party to go to. Rock on!

A new image

I’ve recently been touting myself as a web designer and developer that advocates web standards, usability and accessability, however my own site is designed by someone else, based on a system developed by someone else, and isn’t strictly standards compliant! It’s about time I recitified this, so by the end of January 2006, you’ll see a completely new face on Ejecutive.

Counter category

Yes, I’ve changed the permalink structure again. I promise this will be the last time in a while! Contrary to popular belief, I’m not doing this to fill your RSS readers with my ten latest entries that (I hope) you’ve read, but be assured that this is all for your viewing pleasure.

EjecuAds

If you’re a long term reading (hello to you!), you may remember that I once had Google Adverts on Ejecutive to raise money for charity, and having it turning out to be a relative disaster. You many also remember my position on placing advertisments on Ejecutive for my own monetary gain. I’ve just changed my position.

Rebirth of application service providers

I’ve recently been having a few problems with my various servers around the internet. I don’t know if you noticed, but Ejecutive had a bit of downtime yesterday afternoon, and my e-mail was down for most of the day. This lead me thinking about ASPs again, and whether it was time to reconsider our perceptions about them.

Permapost

As part of the major redesign of Ejecutive, I’ve updated the permalinks structure, to something like http://www.ejecutive.co.uk/archives/post-name/.

I’ve done this to clarify and hopefully, make transparent what the link is about. Before, when I just had a post ID number, there was no way of knowing which post it could’ve been. Frankly, this is something I should’ve changed long ago, before the old system has been engraved in my posts, other peoples posts and search engines.

Saying that, the old link still work, although links that are built on top of them won’t, such as http://www.ejecutive.co.uk/archives/100/feed/. However, I doubt many of you still use that kind of link, so deprecating it shouldn’t cause too many problems. You can always get to it by navigating to the new URL, and then using the links provided on top of them.

I’ve also moved the aside entries to the sidebar, this is a little hint as to what the new design would be like. Actually, it doesn’t give you much of a hint at all, but you’ll see soon enough!

Update: this article has been depreciated by a newer article.
